Album Review: Far Beyond Driven (1994)

For fans of: groove metal... and Dimebag

Pantera - Far Beyond DrivenDefinitely not for the children, Far Beyond Driven is an absolute down tuned slab of violence. Apart from the final track, a cover of the Black Sabbath song 'Planet Caravan', the album is so full of hate and malevolence it needs shooting.

However, whilst the album may be more lairy than a wolverine with itchy pants, songs like 'Becoming', 'Five Minutes Alone' and 'Hard Lines, Sunken Cheeks' mean it is also bloody brilliant. It isn't without it's flaws but few albums of this heaviness and uncompromisingly sadistic nature are this good.

Not the ideal album for everyone, if you can stomach the themes explored in the lyrics there's lots of pleasure to be gained from Far Beyond Driven. By far Pantera's best album.

Check out... The video to '5 Minutes Alone'. Awesome.
