Album Review: Greed (1998)

For fans of: groove metal... and mental institutions

Pulkas - GreedTowards the top end of heaviness you'll find on this site, Pulkas are a loud yet groovy act who apparently know lots of very naughty words.

'Rubber Room' is a brilliantly catchy track, and many of the other songs have moments of inspiration, but the overall feel is of purified anger and violence, not memorable music. Pantera and Machinehead both make brutal music accessible so it's hard to excuse the songs that trade melody for screaming.

A butcher's block of an album. This is splattered-in-blood metal that will undeniably appeal to certain demographics. It isn't a pleasant listen, but if you fancy The Red Hot Chili Peppers mixed with nuclear war, this might be for you.

Check out... The phat bass on 'Rubber Room'. If more of the album had been like this who knows how good it could have been?
