Album Review: Place Vendome (Self Titled) (2005)
For fans of: hard rock... and Helloween with a twist
Amazing project album featuring ex-Helloween singer Michael Kiske and producer Dennis Ward, plus the talents of Kosta Zafiriou, Uwe Reitenauer and Gunter Werno amongst others.
Rumour has it Michael Kiske was told he was singing on a much softer album than this. The music was allegedly re-recorded once he finished with more of a metal edge. Whatever the truth, this is a sensational album with more melody than a harp rendition and more beauty than Miss World's prettier sister.
Crunching heaviness and mystical ballads are intertwined seamlessly on Place Vendome. Few bands achieve this level of flawlessness in their entire careers. Place Vendome was, in loose terms, a thrown together project. The fact they achieved this masterpiece is astonishing.
Check out... The chorus of 'Right Here'. Does music get any better than this?
