Album Review: Smile (2007)
For fans of: hard rock... and ballads written by God, possibly
Akin to the wailings of an archetypal surfer dude, Ted Poley's vocals initially sound strange. You soon realise however his voice has bags of character and gives the songs both a fun and emotionally charged feel.
Smile has numerous memorable tracks and is a stunning listen from start to finish. The title track sticks in the mind like a migraine... but in a good way. 'Life Keeps Spinning Me Round' and 'Will Ya' are even more brilliant and 'If I Can't Change Your Heart (Then Let Me Blow Your Mind)' is one of the most sublime rocking ballads you will ever hear. In fact it's so good it gets a reprise.
A ridiculously likeable release, Smile is a must have purchase for all fans of fun rock with feeling. Ted Poley has nailed it with this album and the world should rejoice.
Check out... The down tuned riff on 'Will Ya' is so groovy it makes you want to dance like a pleb.
