Album Review: Sweet Trade (2007)
For fans of: hard rock... and theatrical flamboyance
2nd album from The Poodles, Sweet Trade features more of the same from the Swedish quartet. This follow up to 2006's Metal Will Stand Tall is a measurable amount heavier in places, although it's still more about the pomp than the stomp.
'Seven Seas', 'Thunderball' and the surprisingly contemporary 'Shine' are the better tracks, although most of the album is a great listen. The choruses aren't quite as huge as previous, and the band no longer sound like they've escaped from a lunatic asylum. Whether that's a good thing or not is open for debate.
The sound will appeal to more people, but the songs aren't so memorable this time. Sweet Trade is still an excellent release and maintains The Poodles' position as producers of top-level rock music.
Check out... The Marilyn Manson-esque 'Flesh And Blood' and the Bon Jovi 'Livin' On a Prayer' love child 'Reach The Sky'. Some people may suggest rip-off but we say clever referencing!
