Album Review: Operation: Mindcrime (1988)

For fans of: prog rock... and monstrous concept albums

Queensrÿche - Operation MindcrimeThe first 'big' album from Queensrÿche, Operation: Mindcrime (their 3rd full length release) is a concept album featuring plots, characters, interludes and even a few songs. This is a full theatrical experience and, although it features some impossibly strong tracks, it won't appeal to everyone.

Whilst 'Revolution Calling', 'I Don't Believe In Love' and the planet-sized 'Eyes Of A Stranger' are the supreme moments, this album is about the ride. This is a record you play from start to finish and revel in the narrative. Listening to individual songs defeats the object of this sublime release.

Maybe not as accessible as the follow up album, Empire, Operation: Mindcrime is a landmark release that has inspired numerous bands to make monumentally pretentious albums ever since.

Check out... 'Eyes Of A Stranger'. Wow!
