Album Review: Down To Earth (1979)

For fans of: rock... and the megaphone swallowing skills of Graham Bonnet

Rainbow - Down To EarthDown To Earth is the 4th studio album by Rainbow and the first to feature Graham Bonnet on vocals. Bonnet has a more raucous and raw sound than Ronnie James Dio giving the band a rockier vibe.

From the start of 'All Night Long', this is a much louder album than previous. The style suits Rainbow, making the songs more accessible and memorable. 'Since You Been Gone' is the big one and, along with 'Long Live Rock And Roll', arguably the most famous Rainbow track of all. Interestingly it's a cover of a Russ Ballard track from 3 years earlier.

Down To Earth is a massive album that will blow your speaker stacks for fun. There are maybe a few underachieving moments, but this is still top notch stuff.

Check out... The keyboard intro on track 2, 'Eyes Of The World'. Sounds like the theme to a tacky 70's sci-fi show.

1. All Night Long
2. Eyes Of The World

4. Makin Love
