REVOLTING COCKS - review added 1st July 2010
Album Review: Got Cock? (2010)
For fans of: Industrial Rock... and funny lyrics
The delicious sounding Revolting Cocks (more commonly called RevCo these days) has been going since 1983. Al Jourgensen, best known as the front man of Ministry and the founder of 13th Planet Records, is the only constant member of the band. Many others have come and gone over the years.
The band's debut album "Big Sexy Land" (1985) was followed by "You Goddamned Son of a Bitch, Live" (1988), "Beers, Steers & Queers" (1990), and "Linger Ficken' Good" (1993). After a decade-long hiatus, they returned with "Cocked & Loaded" (2006), and "Olympic-O" (2009). A couple of remix albums have appeared over the years too.
Latest release "Got Cock?" is a mix of industrial metal, dance beats and hilarious (and very rude) lyrics. A lot of it is pretty rubbish from a musical point of view - maybe suitable for creating an atmosphere in a seedy club, buy little else. However, several of the songs are worth listening to purely for the filthy wordplay. This is not a subtle, or indeed a clean album by any stretch of the imagination. It is, though, a hugely amusing one.
I can't rate "Got Cock?" that highly because it isn't a consistently rewarding aural experience. On the other hand, it does border on absolute disgusting geniius. Hmmm... I kind of like it regardless. Please don't tell anyone though!
