RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS - stub review added 2nd December 2008

Album Review: Stadium Arcadium (2006)

For fans of: alternative rock... and unnecessarily long albums

Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Stadium ArcadiumThe first song from double album Stadium Arcadium, 'Dani California', is good if tame. It sets the tone for the remainder of the release. The Chili sound is now so refined it often submerges itself in a flood of banality.

Occasionally the band rear their heads for breath. 'Hump De Bump' is a good example, as is 'Desecration Smile'. More often than not the band seem happy to pump out dreary if likeable sub-pop chill out music. It's not to say the album doesn't have high points, but there are considerably more valleys than mountain tops.

If Stadium Arcadium had been cut down to around 10 songs it could have been good. 28 tracks really is pushing matters. This is a classic example of quantity instead of quality. Shame.
