Album Review: Leave It All Behind (2010)
For fans of: Southern Hard Rock... and people in doorways
Illinois hard rockers Red Letter Merchant - Ryan on vocals, Camron on guitar, Jace on guitar and piano, Jason on bass, and Scott on drums - play a music with its fingers in several pies. There's an overwhelming taste of Southern rock mixed with grunge, blues and a few nods to metal. Imagine Creed, Black Stone Cherry, Stone Temple Pilots and more all mashed together and you'll have the idea.
Leave It All Behind sees the band pumping out a record full of fine music. It isn't what you'd call exceptional - there are no absolutely huge songs that could decimate the charts - but the overall standard really is surprisingly high. The band has a solid, tight sound and special mention should be made of Ryan's excellent vocals.
As a firm base from which to build, Leave It All Behind is superb. It showcases a band with bundles of performing skill. All Red Letter Merchant need now are some magical songs to cement their status as a genuinely above-average band.
You won't go far wrong buying this. There are a bunch of better albums out there at present, but don't bet on that being the case the next time these guys get together to record something...
Check out... All of it.
