Album Review: Rox Diamond (Self Titled) (1991)
For fans of: hard rock... and the sounds of Journey
Released just as the grunge movement kicked off, Rox Diamond were destined for obscurity through no fault of their own. They couldn't have released a much better album.
Combining the commercial and emotional side of Journey with a matured version of the 80's hair metal sound, this self titled debut tugs at the heartstrings and the neck muscles in equal measure. The songs are of such a high standard it seems unfair picking out individual tracks.
Paul Daniel's voice has that sublime mixture of beauty with a raw aggressive edge... kind of like a polar bear. The rest of the band are equally exemplary, with numerous near-prog interludes and intriguing rhythms showcasing their technical abilities.
This is a fabulous album. If you like Journey, Joe Lynn Turner, FM or any other artists with a deeply musical twist to their rock, you'll love this. If you like Cradle Of Filth or Emperor, you'd probably best steer clear.
Check out... All of it. It's one of those albums that flows from start to finish with excellent song after excellent song.
