Album Review: New Era (2008)

For fans of: hard rock... and Stratovarius

Revolution Renaissance - New EraA band formed by ex-Stratovarius guitarist Timo Tolkki, this debut album features vocalists Michael Kiske, Edguy's Tobias Sammet and Finnish singer Pasi Rantanen.

The result is something of a hotchpotch of styles that has all the flow of a dried up river. 'I Did It My Way' is a great track, whilst 'Angel', 'Last Night On Earth' and the title track are acceptably not-bad. The remainder of the album has little to offer.

A disappointing release from a group of talented musicians. As with other albums like this, the problem lies in the unimaginative songwriting, not the performances. There is little that makes you want to come back for another listen which is just frustrating.

Check out... 'Glorious And Divine' has some of the silliest lyrics ever. It appears to be a song about a vain lady's skin care routine. Huh?!
