Album Review: The Inner Sanctum (2007)

For fans of: heavy metal... and musicians who aren't afraid to wear leather

Saxon - The Inner SanctumFollow up to their excellent 2004 album Lionheart, The Inner Sanctum sees Saxon treading a similar path.

The heaviness is in attendance, but something is absent from the melody camp. The songs are fine but missing that last line of catchiness. It's hard to put your finger on, and in isolation The Inner Sanctum sounds fine, but listen to the previous release and this one simply isn't in the same league.

'I've Got To Rock (To Stay Alive)' and a few other tracks are kind of cool, but this is mostly average rock done bloody well. The next album is due in 2009, so fingers crossed.

Check out... 'Red Star Falling'. Arguably the best track on the album, if a little slower than the Saxon norm.

Track List:

1. State Of Grace
2. Need For Speed
