Album Review: Arise (1991)

For fans of: thrash metal... and Brazil proving it doesn't just do carnivals

Sepultura - AriseOne of THE thrash albums, even if it did arrive a little late to the party. Arise could never be described as accessible but, if you have the key, you can unlock a world of genius.

The first three songs will blow you away and the rest will stamp on your head to make sure. This is every breed of metal rolled into one and given a flick knife. If Arise was a gun it would be the one on the Death Star. The fact there's a cover of Motorhead's Orgasmatron seems irrelevant.

Arise has brutal complexities even Einstein couldn't fathom. It is however a masterpiece and should be awarded a small trophy to put on its mantelpiece.

Check out... 3:17 into 'Desperate Cry'. Oh yeah...
