Album Review: Alpha (2007)
For fans of: alternative metal... and a bit o' brutal drumming
A brutal yet melodious offering, Alpha is a pleasant surprise.
There are numerous great songs throughout the album and the catchiness of many is off the scale. Lajon Witherspoon is one of those gifted singers who can cover all ranges of metal from guttural howls to clean near-pop sweetness. He never loses his power however and gives the band an edge many do without. The songwriting deserves special mention for being varied and often contagiously memorable.
A great album, Alpha proves what a talent Sevendust are. They may be signed to a rap label, but this is metal through and through.
Check out... 'Under'. Brilliantly heavy and amazingly melodic. Sums up the album perfectly.
