Album Review: The Good And The Evil (2009)

For fans of: Power Metal... and old albums for new

SevenGates - The Good And The EvilItalian band SevenGates recorded The Good And The Evil back in 2005, released it digitally in 2008 and finally on disc toward the end of 2009. At the time of recording, the band was Federico Puleri on vocals, Tommy Vitaly and Marco Moroni on guitar, Simone Vermigli on bass, Lorenzo Innocenti on drums, and Fabrizio Marnica on keys. At the time of writing, half the band seem to have gone their separate ways, whilst the remainder are already working on the band's 3rd album.

The sound on The Good And The Evil is built on a base of speedy power metal - think somewhere in the middle of Impellitteri, Firewind, Manowar, Dragonforce and so on. There's an overwhelming melodic twist to the music too. The album isn't heavy and boisterous for the sake of all else. There is actually a good slab of keyboard and guitar-led beauty amongst the thunder and destruction.

The songs and performances are nothing massively special, but that's not to say there's anything wrong with the album. It's actually pretty enjoyable in the general scheme of things. I've certainly heard much worse - often from much bigger, better known bands.

If you like the power metal genre you could do a lot worse than checking this out. Apart from anything else, the band were offering the entire album for free download on their website. Decent music for free? Snap it up!

Check out... The band's website and see if the album is still there for free download.
