Album Review: Nowhere Land (2006)
For fans of: hard rock... and musicians who look a bit like Doctor Who
Mike Slamer, he of the surname that monikers this album, is a guitarist with a rich history. His best known work is with Warrant on songs like 'Cherry Pie'. He also had a heavy input on the excellent Seventh Key albums. In fact many of the guys on this project are the same.
The sound too is similar to Seventh Key with near-identical harmonies and parallel musical themes. Somehow this album doesn't work quite so well. That catchy chorus structure is not as in evidence here. Much of Nowhere Land is considerably slower and less biased towards the tapping of one's foot.
A decent album, but not as good as we know these musicians can produce. Nowhere Land features plenty of fine songs and is in isolation a great listen. Ultimately, even though we like it, it's a mild disappointment.
Check out... Seventh Key. Many of the same musicians but just that little bit better.
