Album Review: Diabolus In Musica (1998)
For fans of: alternative metal... singers who shout lots
Slayer's 7th studio album, Diabolus In Musica has more variation and styles than a typical Slayer release. Hints of nu metal resonate through a number of songs, but not so strongly that they remove the typical Slayer character. This is still heavy rhythmic music with an emphasis on shouty lyrics and duelling guitar leads.
Several of the tracks leave a lasting impression, even if the overall feel is of something missing.
Diabolus In Musica is a fine effort, but not quite up to Slayer's best. The tail end of the album has a couple of forgettable songs, but there is enough here to justify a dabble.
Check out... The start of 'In The Name Of God'. Does metal get much heavier than this?
