Album Review: God Hates Us All (2001)
For fans of: heavy metal... albums with feel good titles...or not
The final Slayer album to feature Paul Bostaph on drums, God Hates Us All has a less experimental sound than previous release Diabolus In Musica. There's an abundance of that speedier thrash sound that characterized their earlier work, although there's plenty of chugging broken-beat segments in the mix.
Songs like 'Bloodline', the ridiculously down tuned 'Here Comes The Pain', and the painfully amusing 'Payback' are memorable enough, but in general God Hates Us All has lost that spark. It's more about the shouting and the heaviness than the quality of the result.
This is one of the poorer Slayer releases and, whilst it has its moments, it's not an album you'll be inclined to come back to. Shame.
Check out... The drumming at the start of Disciple and the legendary chorus from 'Payback'. Awesome.
