Album Review: Iowa (2001)

For fans of: alternative metal... and second albums that show just how sh*t the first one was

Slipknot - IowaFollow up to the great pile of steaming, er, debut album, Iowa is much, much more like it. Where the first release was an unmusical journey through the cutting room floor rejects of nu metal, Iowa is an ingenious noise-fest with riffs that could punch a hole through Satan.

Ignore 'Gently', 'Skin Ticket', 'Metabolic' and the hideous title track. They return to the incongruous blare and unmusical claptrap of the previous album. What you need are songs like 'Disasterpiece' and 'People = Shit', a song so good even Richard Cheese covered it.

Iowa is a beast of a release that even shows bands like Slayer how heavy metal should be done. Slipknot were huge after the first album. At least now they deserve all the praise they get.

Check out... 'The Heretic Anthem'. Oh my...
