Album Review: We Do What We Want (2010)
For fans of: Hard Rock 'n' Roll... and AC/DC... again...
Hollywood hard rock 'n' rollers SNEW - Curtis Don Vito on vocals, Andy Lux on guitar, Cat Tate on bass, and Mark Ohrenberger on drums - started in 2005. Their well received debut album, Snew You, came out in 2008.
Two years on, We Do What We Want again sees the band calling on the services of producer Bobby Owsinski. The new release was mixed by Grammy Award winning Ed Cherney (Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Spinal Tap) and recorded at Village Recorder in Los Angeles.
The sound? It's a sleazy take on AC/DC mixed with a rocking version of Iggy & The Stooges. Unfortunately, CDV has a voice that comes across like a comedic take on Bon Scott. It's equal parts entertaining and annoying - I suspect he'll be a blast live, but on record he's tough on the ears. The songs are similar; a pain on record, probably great fun on the stage.
We Do What We Want is a cartoonish rip-off of other people's music, comedically performed and not that great... But it'll undoubtedly be enjoyable if you are totally p*ssed, and trapped in a seedy bar.
Check out... The first album?
