SYSTEM OF A DOWN - stub review added 4th December 2008
Album Review: System Of A Down (Self Titled) (1998)
For fans of: alternative metal... and being angry at the world
Excellent eponymous debut album by System Of A Down. Unlike their later work this is a real metal feast with plenty of fat riffs and thunderous drums. The sound is thoroughly experimental, but it's also accessible and quite mad. There are a few naughty words and themes along the way. This is the work of angry young(ish) men so all's fair in love and rock.
There are numerous good tracks including 'Suite Pee', 'Sugar' and 'War?', but this album is as much about the overall experience as it is the individual moments of fulfillment.
SOAD's debut is well worth a listen even if it's for the novelty value. It really is quite unlike any other metal album out there and the fact it's still (mostly) musical should be applauded.
Check out... The groove at the end of 'Sugar'. Shame Red Hot Chili Peppers won't do something more like this.
