Album Review: Badmotorfinger (1991)

For fans of: alternative metal... and grunge bands that don't sound too grungy

Soundgarden - BadmotorfingerThe Chris Cornell fronted band Soundgarden may be best known for their huge hit, 'Black Hole Sun', but this is the album that kick started their popularity. They had released a couple of albums before Badmotorfinger, but with songs like 'Rusty Cage', 'Outshined,' 'Jesus Christ Pose' and 'Somewhere' it was 1991 when they finally hit the charts.

Chris Cornell's voice dominates the album, although nothing should be taken away from the remaining band members. There is plenty of experimental sound work throughout the album that moves it away from the dreary sounds of the day. Although Soundgarden were widely considered a grunge band, helped by the fact they came from Seattle, in reality they had a unique sound.

Badmotorfinger is a fine album with a number of great tracks. There are a few lesser moments, but overall this is a worthwhile purchase.

Check out... The creepy start of 'Jesus Christ Pose'. Not something you forget once you've heard it.
