Album Review: Nomadism - The Sonny Terrence Brentwood Story, Final Chapters (2011)

For fans of: Classic Rock

Shoot The Breeze - Nomadism - The Sonny Terrence Brentwood Story, Final ChaptersFour-piece band Shoot the Breeze hails from just outside the city of Drammen in Norway. They play a mixture of beefy classic rock and prog with a noticeable American leaning to the sound. The musicianship is of a very high quality, and the vocals aren't half bad either. The production could arguably be improved but it certainly isn't bad.

What really stands out about the album's vibe though is the concept-iness of it all. There are loads of set-piece snippets with characters speaking lines mixed in with various sound effects. Depending on your perspective this'll either be great or damned annoying. Treating the album as a theatrical experience it works, but as a musical experience the infills grate in a big way. The songs are mostly very strong and the constant interruptions really get in the way of enjoying them.

The best tracks include the Zeppelin-esque 'Days of Burdened Times', the heavy 'Redrocks Longest Tale', and the annoyingly catchy 'Scale of C', the groovy 'Contrapazzo'.

In Summation:

There are some great songs on this fine sounding album, but all the silly filler takes away from the finished product. Worth purchasing if you are prepared to use your 'skip button'.
