EP Review: Arrivals And Departures EP (2009)

For fans of: Alt Rock.. and The Cult(zig)

The Solid - Arrivals And Departures EPThe Solid, a San Franciscan quartet, is Brian Hagman on vocals, Justin Caucutt on guitars, Greg Randolph on bass, and, er, 'Clementine' on drums. The members actually seem to hail from all over the States, and they all play or have played in other bands here there and everywhere.

The music on Arrivals And Departures is dominated by Brian Hagman's vocals, and to me he really sounds like a cross between Glenn Danzig and Ian Astbury of The Cult. That's a stumbling block because they are two artists I've never been a fan of. However, quality wise, I'd say the music on this EP isn't far off being a match for the majority of the music either Danzig or The Cult put out. Okay, there's no 'Mother' or 'She Sells Sanctuary' here, but if you like those tracks I see no reason why you shouldn't like this.

Not my cup of tea, but I can imagine plenty of people liking Arrivals And Departures. It isn't brilliant, but its Southern rocking-blues tinged take on 1980's indie metal isn't by any means bad.

Check out... The artwork. That, on the other hand, is cack.
