TESTAMENT - stub review added 9th December 2008
Album Review: Low (1994)
For fans of: thrash... and very heavy metal that's actually pretty funky
Testament don't do inaccessible metal. Their themes may be extreme, the vocals and heaviness may be off the scale, but somehow the end result always has an air of fun and friendliness. Unlike a lot of other bands they realise that people want to enjoy music, not just be impressed by it.
Testament integrate numerous jazz and funk elements into their sound. Although the result is still brutal, it's a brutal that wears brightly coloured socks and a large smile. The songs on Low are 'testament' to this. Every song is so memorable it hurts. You can play this album at a party, whilst you're driving, even at the start of a war and it always throws up the appropriate sound.
This is metal for all occasions. If every heavy album sounded this nasty yet loveable the world would be a wonderful place.
Check out... 'Dog Faced Gods'. How catchy do those riffs want to be?
