EP Review: Dead Before Dawn EP (2010)

For fans of: Metal... and dying in the night

This Human Disease - Dead Before Dawn EP This Human Disease - Richard Oswin on vocals, Jason Skelly on bass, Mark Hobbs on guitar, and Ashe Youngs on drums - only started at the end of 2009. They list their influences as Coal Chamber, Fear Factory, Pantera, Slipknot, Rage Against the Machine and more.

THE EP certainly shows hints of those bands, with a definite nod towards Slipknot, although the quality on display here clearly isn't in the same league. The songs have a reasonable stab at being catchy, so I'd probably describe "Dead Before Dawn" as music that'll sound good live. It isn't that the EP is bad as such, it just isn't the complete package - in fact it sounds unfinished, like it's missing a few layers of guitar and bass.

Overall, not a bad first effort, but This Human Disease will need to find a much bigger, fatter sound if they want to compete with the big boys and girls.

Check out... These guys live.
