Album Review: Dead Reckoning (2007)
For fans of: prog metal... and covers of Muse songs
With their previous album Subsurface being an okay if uninspiring release, I didn't come to Threshold's Dead Reckoning with high expectations. More fool me.
This is an astonishing mix of prog-flavoured theatrical music. I say flavoured because the prog influence is not that strong. There are certainly a few disjointed rhythms here and there but this album is all about the depth of sound and the complexity of the arrangements. It's almost symphonic in nature and sounds just amazing.
This may have been singer Andrew "Mac" McDermott's last album with the band but he has never been in finer voice. The songs are as memorable as they come and the range of styles and sounds on offer is breathtaking.
Check out... 'Safe To Fly'. Has there ever been a better heavy metal chill out song?
