TRAGIK - review added 3rd February 2010
Album Review: And We All Turn To Dust (2010)
For fans of: Hard Rock... and becoming powder
And We All Turn To Dust is the 3rd Tragik release and follows quickly after 2009's Outlaw. The line-up is again Phil Vincent on vocals, keys and bass, Dirk Phillips on drums, and Damian D'Ercole on guitars. Billy Roux has a guest spot adding guitar to 'Nothing'.
Although Phil is in the process of releasing another solo album, he still found time to co-write, produce and engineer this one. You'd have to say he's one busy guy!
There are hints of 1960's pop rock, plus the melodic extravagance of Queen and Boston underpinning And We All Turn To Dust. You can add to that 1980's heavy rock and a few nods to grunge and prog. It's nowhere near as messy as it sounds. It's a cohesive album that simply ventures down various highways as it muddles along.
The result is rather decent, although whether it matches the quality of the last Tragik album is debatable. 'Jaded' is a fine effort. The epically proportioned 'Can't Find The Words' hits the spot too. The urgent 'Giving In' gets even closer to greatness. 'Before It's Gone' is pleasantly upbeat if understated. The Boston-esque 'Long Way from Home' is extremely cool and a real grower. The remaining songs vary between average and good. They all offer a hook or interesting theme.
I like And We All Turn To Dust, even if it isn't perfect. There are a number of patchy moments, meaning it struggles occasionally for flow, but not enough to spoil it. Not bad at all.
Check out... The artwork - much more appropriate this time. The last album looked like a country and Western release!
