TWISTED SISTER - live album review added 27th January 2009
Album Review: Live At The Astoria (2008)
For fans of: heavy metal... and men who wear too much make-up
Men who like to dress up like ugly women should, by all rights, not be this good at heavy metal. Twisted Sister have been plying their mascara and blusher for a long time now, yet they still sound as fresh as a snowdrop on a newborn lamb's arse.
You all know the songs, you all know the sound. Only question is, how does the music played live translate to CD? The answer is, pretty well...
Unlike some live albums which make you feel like you ARE there, Live At The Astoria spends more time making you wish you WERE there. The atmosphere comes through your speakers like poison gas in a KGB prison cell. The Astoria is reasonably large but, like all the best venues, still manages to be intimate. It must have felt like the best gig-in-a-living room ever.
Is this disc worth buying? Absolutely! You need to play it loud with a capital F. Played quietly it sounds benign. Loud, it sounds like bar music from Hades. Twisted Sister: Live At The Astoria will leave you p*ssed off you couldn't make the gig, but it almost makes up for it. Throw in the bonus DVD and this'll keep you going for yonks.
Check out... 'The Price'. It means as much to Twisted Sister as it sounds good to us.
