Album Review: Excrement Weather (2010)

For fans of: Alt Rock... and general weirdness, but in a kind of good way

The Uncommon Houseflies - Excrement Weather"Excrement Weather" is the 2nd album from Louisville, Kentucky mad-rockers The Uncommon Houseflies, and follows the 2007 release "Disgruntled Shooter (In The Nursing Home)"

The band - Scott Gibson on guitar and telepathy, Kevin Gibson on bass, vocals and gas pains, Kirk Kiefer on rhythm guitar and special sauce, and Kevin Hays on drums and pimp suits - clearly have a penchant for the lyrical musings of GWAR or Jack Black in Tenacious D. Unfortunately, they aren't quite as funny or as musically talented as either.

Excrement Weather consists of acoustic guitars, a bit of bump 'n' grind rock, flouncy pop and folk. They sound like they would be an awesome band to have at an adult party, but on record it just doesn't work. The sound is too amateurish and shallow. It really does sound like it was recorded in a living room.

Saying that, some of the lyrics are amusing. I say amusing, but it's unlikely anything here will make you fill your pants with hilarity-induced urinations.

Hard to recommend this release. It was created with good-hearted intentions, but sadly it's a just a bit rubbish.

Check out... The reeeeaaally 'crap' cover art.
