Album Review: A Tribute To ABBA (2001)
For fans of: rock covers... and ABBA
Saying Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus wrote some amazing music for ABBA is like saying Tiger Woods is quite handy at golf. As far as understatements go, it would win a decent sized trophy at the annual understatement championships in Barbados.
Much of ABBA's music has a strong rock rhythm anyway so it seems a natural progression to get rock bands to re-record it. Yngwie Malmsteen's take on Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! was proof the concept worked, but here we have a full album of it. And what an album it is! Style wise it varies between soft rock and power metal. There's nothing obscenely heavy, although 'Dancing Queen' has a rather odd punk style you may or may not like.
This is one of the best tribute albums ever, hardly surprising considering the source material. You have to own this, it's the law!
Check out... All of it. It's bloody marvelous.
