Album Review: Roadrunner United: The All Star Sessions (2005)

For fans of: heavy metal... and several types of rock

Various Artists - Roadrunner United: The All Star SessionsThis album is a celebration of 25 years in the music industry for Roadrunner Records. Numerous artists from their ranks perform on the record. Amongst others it features Joey Jordison (Slipknot), Matt Heafy (Trivium), Howard Jones (Killswitch Engage), Rob Flynn (Machinehead), Andreas Kisser (Sepultura), Jeff Waters (Annihilator) and the thoroughly bonkers King Diamond.

The album trawls through various genres, most of which relate to the style of music each singer usually performs. This is no bad thing. Many of the tracks here are amongst the best the artists have ever performed on.

This album was never going to the greatest release ever. It has to appeal to the fans of so many genres it was always going to be a hit and miss affair. Overall, though, it's considerably better than you might imagine.

Check out... 'The Dagger'. Exactly what Killswitch Engage should be recording. Howard Jones sounds f*cking awesome.
