Album Review: Resurrection (2000)
For fans of: heavy metal... and singers with tongue in cheek stage names
Venom are known as the forefathers of black metal. There earlier sound was very doom-laden and raw. Resurrection is almost happy sounding in comparison with a rich depth to the production. Just like an angry snake it's still got some bite though.
Chronos is in fine voice and sounds like he's enjoying every minute of this, rolling his R's like his life depended on it. The songs are surprisingly catchy given the subject matters and music style. There is a funk edge to the heaviness that really lifts it and makes what should be inaccessible music almost friendly.
A chugging beast of an album, Resurrection may be a monster but it's a monster with a big smile and a patterned cardigan. Be warned, It'll still bite your head off.
Check out... The way Chronos rolls his R's. Genius!
