Album Review: 1987 (1987)
For fans of: hard rock... and bloody good ballads
1987 is Whitesnake's 8th studio album. It shows a real change of style over their earlier blues rock sound to a more commercially driven hard rock vibe. David Coverdale's voice is ever more like Robert Plant's, but could that really be described as a bad thing?
The album is packed full of classic tracks and has a beautifully unique production sound. There are only two problems that with the release. Firstly 'You're Gonna Break My Heart Again', although a decent track, doesn't fit in with the rest of the album. Secondly, and this is the big one, which version of 'Here I Go Again' do you pick? There's the original on Saints & Sinners, the hard rock AND hair rock versions in 1987, then a newer acoustic arrangement. Decisions decisions...
Whitesnake 1987 is a phenomenal record. If you don't already own this you are clearly bonkers. Nothing personal.
Check out... The 'Mandaryna' version of 'Here I Go Again' on YouTube. God, have you ever heard anything so awful? Arghhh!
