Album Review: Restless Heart (1997)
For fans of: blues rock... and albums that aren't what they appear to be
This album isn't really Whitesnake. Even David Coverdale admits as much. This is basically a D.C. solo album masquerading as a Whitesnake album for commercial reasons. The songs are mostly acoustically driven or have a light blues rock feel.
The man himself is in silky voice as usual and musicianship on the album is impressive. The main problem is in the songs. They are mostly pretty uninspiring and certainly not up to the usual Whitesnake or David Coverdale standard. 'Crying', with its suspicious 'Still Of The Night' central section is a decent effort, as is the cover of 'Stay With Me'. Otherwise it's all forgettable.
Restless Heart is not a terrible album, but it isn't anywhere near as good as would be expected from the players involved. Worth a punt for fans of Whitesnake's softy bluesy side, but that's all.
Check out... The middle of 'Crying'. It really does sound like 'Still Of The Night'.
