WORDS OF FAREWELL - review added 5th April 2012

Album Review: Immersion (2012)

For fans of: Melodic Death Metal

Words Of Farewell - ImmersionGerman band Words Of Farewell was founded in early 2007 by guitarists Erik Gaßmus and Phillipp Olivier, with their first release - the 7 track EP "Ashes Of The Coming Dawn" - coming soon after. In 2008 the 4 track "From Now On..." came along, and since then there have been a few line-up changes, and the writing and recording of this; their debut album.

The sound is atmospheric, progressive and very, very heavy. They combine the technical power of Lamb Of God with plenty of Ihsahn (Emperor) influences, taking the result and putting an almost dance-synth sound in the mix. It works well and makes for an impressive ride.

However, impressive is not always enough and that is the case for me here. I am in awe of the technical side of this album, and I have to say the singing is on the money too, but there's no real soul to the music. Maybe with another hundred listens it would climb into my veins, but for now with perhaps ten play-throughs under my belt, the album still leaves me cold.

In Summation:

Very good, but not as enjoyable as it should have been for me. I can see some people out there loving this though, so definitely one to check out and make up your own mind on.
