Album Review: The Silent Force (2004)
For fans of: symphonic metal... and the collision of opera and rock guitars
3rd studio album by Dutch band Within Temptation, The Silent Force is an operatic journey through the realms of rock and metal. The sound effortlessly flits between flowery and gnarly, putting images of elves and fairies into your mind.
None of the songs really stand out. The Silent Force is more of an as-one experience than a collection of standalone components. Whether this is the sort of thing you would want to sit down and listen to is debatable, but as background music for orc hunting or dwarf bashing this is unsurpassed.
A fine album, but it isn't really rock in a traditional sense. This is a grandiose take on heaviness and Sharon Den Adel's vocals will leave your jaw on the floor.
Check out... How over the top it all is. Within Temptation don't do half hearted.
