EP Review: Bound By Apathy EP (2012)
For fans of: Death Metalcore
What The Night Brings hail from Buckinghamshire in the UK. Formed in 2008, their debut EP "Tides" came out in 2010. "Bound By Apathy" is the follow-up and sees the guys doing everything in their power to deafen the population of the entire world. Yeah, this EP is damned loud and all the better for it.
There aren't many bands out there which get the right combination of rage, power, melody and contagious rhythm. Somehow WTNB have hit the proverbial nail squarely on the proverbial head. This release is as infectious as a dirty girl and as staggeringly heavy as a drunk elephant. Combining death, groove and hard core, math metal, a good dose of thrash and a colourful nod to prog (think Lamb Of God), there's something for everyone here.
The guitars, bass and drums are spot on in terms of playing and in the effects boxes they run through. Singer Adrian has a potent vocal style without resorting to silly piggy noises or anything approaching hippo rape. He means business, sounds as angry as a pit bull in a tumbledryer, and really does key into the music sublimely.
Best track has to be 'The March That Makes A Man', though there's nothing at all wrong with the other 3 entries.
In Summation:
All in all this is one of the finest EPs I've had the pleasure of hearing in ages. These guys deserve to be f*cking massive.
