THE ROCK REALMS AWARDS 2009 - BALLADS

This section was very tightly contested. There perhaps weren't that many all-time-classic ballads this year, but a few still romanced our world.

Runners-Up are in no particular order.

WINNER: Soul Doctor - 'Times Of Yesterday'

Oh my. How awesome is this song? And how good is Tommy Heart's voice? Just phenomenal!

2ND: Constancia - 'Life Is A Mystery'

Probably the biggest chorus of any song this year. If the verse had been as strong this track would have crushed everything in it's path.

3RD: Fair Warning - 'Hey Girl'

Tommy Heart's 2nd appearance in the top 3, can this man sing an average ballad? Er, no, he can't.

RUNNER-UP: Place Vendome - 'I'd Die For You'

Surprisingly mature ballad, but not in a bad way. Oh how we love Place Vendome!

RUNNER-UP: Mastedon - 'Nowhere Without Your Love'

Absolutely amazing track, only let down by the fact it sounds uncannily like a Boston cover. How good is the chorus?!

RUNNER-UP: Kimberley Dahme - 'The Only Man'

Speaking of Boston, here is their bass player proving that, not only can she sing, she can sing bloody well and pump out a mean ballad to boot.

RUNNER-UP: Winger - 'Witness'

Just beautiful.

RUNNER-UP: W.E.T. - 'Comes Down Like Rain'

...but it's so nice you wouldn't even need an umbrella.

RUNNER-UP: Praying Mantis - 'Lonely Way Home'

The album was only a few steps above average, but this song is amazing. Wish they'd played it when I saw them live!

RUNNER-UP: Fair Warning - 'Falling'

Tommy Heart. Again. Yes, it sounds a bit like Duran Duran, but it's better. So there.

Just missing the cut, honourable mentions in no particular order go to Sea's To Cross by Impulsia, One Day At A Time by W.E.T., Sweet Enemy by The Fire, Queen Of My Dreams by Reece, Lovesigh by Outloud, A New Generation by Mind Key, I Live For You by Places Of Power, Love's Tears by Delany, Missing by Shortino and Bittersweet by Hardline
