THE ROCK REALMS AWARDS 2009 - POWER/HEAVY METAL SONGS

We do love a bit of power metal here at Rock Realms, and heavy metal goes down jolly well too. This year a load of real big'uns appeared. These are the best of 'em.

Runners-Up are in no particular order.

WINNER: Saint Deamon - 'Pandeamonium'

Wow with knobs on. That's the best way to describe this song.

2ND: Jorn - 'Rock 'N' Roll Angel'

Not his best album, but arguably his best song ever.

3RD: Primal Fear - 'Black Rain'

Primal Fear used to be no more than a pale imitation of Judas Priest. With this song and their latest album, they've started to leave the godfathers in their wake.

RUNNER-UP: Hammerfall - 'Any Means Necessary'

Who says power metal has to be serious? Hammerfall don't!

RUNNER-UP: Burning Point - 'Fool's Parade'

This really makes me want to go to a carnival in Valhalla!

RUNNER-UP: Herman Frank - 'Father Buries Son'

Sad title, unbelievably stunning song.

RUNNER-UP: Winterborn - 'The Land Of The Free'

The verse is good. The chorus is off the scale. And that's even if your scale is REALLY big!

RUNNER-UP: At Vance - 'Fallin`'

It might make you cry, but the tears will be rolling over a warm heart...and you'll have very happy ears.

RUNNER-UP: Primal Fear - '5.0/Torn'

Yep, it's Primal Fear Again. Told you it was a good album!

RUNNER-UP: Mystic Prophecy - 'Revolution Evil'

This is as gnarly as an ancient oak tree with a steam hammer, and just as loud. That's a good thing.

Just missing the cut, honourable mentions in no particular order go to Six Times Dead (16.6) by Primal Fear, One Way To Freedom by Narnia and Speed Demon by U.D.O.
