Mark Boals
Too Late (2002)
Criminally, was only a Japanese bonus track on his Edge Of The World album... yet is his best song ever. Spooky!
Judas Priest
Angel (2005)
Bit of an odd one this and it should be terrible, but somehow it's brilliant...
Brainstorm
Heavenly (2005)
The clue is in the title. Simply stunning.
Dream Evil
Losing You (2002)
Dream Evil verge on a p*ss take most of the time, although we love them anyway. This shows another side we'd like to see more of.
Metallica
Nothing Else Matters (1991)
Metallica's first proper ballad and it's a doozy. Bit of a shock at the time, but now Metallica aren't metal any more it's fine.
Metalium
Metamorphosis (1999)
Wow. Seriously. This is epic on an epic scale!
Annihilator
Phoenix Rising (1993)
Annihilator are not exactly renowned for their ballads, but on this evidence perhaps they should be. It even makes Aaron Randall sound good, something few songs can claim.
At Vance
Shiver (2007)
Great voice, great musicianship, excellent song. What is there not to like?!
Axel Rudi Pell
Forever Angel (2004)
A love song about hairy biker blokes and leather clad lasses? You betcha!
Masterplan
When Love Comes Close (2003)
Ah Jorn... If ever a singer had been given his voice by the Gods, he's your man. Wonderful song.
Jaded Heart
Hole In My Heart (2005)
Johan Fahlberg waltzed into the vacant Jaded Heart lead vocal position and put his voice on a song like this. Not a bad way of introducing yourself!
Dio
As Long As It's Not About Love (2000)
RJD is not renowned for his soppy ballads, but on this evidence perhaps he should be!
Rain
I'd Die For You (2006)
Michael Bormann sings on this slow but lovely track. All rather nice.
Yngwie J Malmsteen
Like An Angel (1997)
Written for his other half April, this song has real sentiment and you can hear it. Bloody marvelous!
At Vance
Lost In Your Love (2007)
Wow. Basically.
Just missing the cut, honourable mentions in no particular order go to Wasting Love by Iron Maiden.
