> ENCOFFINATION ALBUM

Selfmadegod Records is proud to announce the release of the CD version of the debut album by the U.S. death metal/doom band ENCOFFINATION, entitled Ritual Ascension Beyond Flesh.

Formed in 2009, ENCOFFINATION is the sepulchral embodiment of rancid death. Crushing, suffocating death metal doom of the lowest caliber. Named for the ritual preparation of the dead for burial, ENCOFFINATION exists below the plane of mortality; deep within the realms of death and decay. Slowly they lurch forth with their educated form of blasphemy, occult, and ritualistic expulsion of the holy from the earth.

This is the first full length from this amazing two-piece band, which is comprised of Ghoat on vocals, guitar, and bass (also in Festered) and Elektrokutioner on drums (also in Decrepitaph, Festered, Tombstones, Beyond Hell, Scaremaker). The follow-up to their After Their Temples Descend Below The Earth 7-inch, released earlier this year, this Georgia/Texas-based duo attacks with the 8-song Ritual Ascension Beyond Flesh, featuring over 30 minutes of cryptic metal influenced by early ‘90s American doom/death and bands like Incantation, Disembowelment, and Morpheus Descends. The album has already been released on tape format by Ritval Death Offerings, and the vinyl version is available on Psychedelic Lotus Order. Now it’s time for the CD version!

Prepare for the most soul draining and graven death metal album of the year this September!

Ritual Ascension Beyond Flesh track listing: 1. Procession, 2. Nefarious Yet Elegant Are the Bowels of Hell, 3. Miasma of Rotten Serenity, 4. Eucharist of Bone and Flame, 5. Interlude, 6. Beyond the Grace of Flesh Go I, 7. Entombment of the Breathing Flesh, 8. Coffinpsalms

SLEEP debuted with 1991's Volume One album, recorded for San Francisco label Tupelo. Earache Records received the band’s next recordings in the mail as a demo. The label -- impressed by SLEEP's single-mindedness and unique vision -- immediately signed the band and released the tape exactly as it was received. Record stores worldwide stocked SLEEP’s Holy Mountain from November 1992 to this day.

The band then signed to London Records. Their debut album for the major took the form of one mammoth 63-minute leviathan of a track entitled "Jerusalem." The band resisted the label’s attempts at radio edits and bringing in their own engineer to remix the album in view of “marketability.” London baulked at the prospect of promoting what probably still is the most extreme music ever recorded for a major label, so shelved the recording and dropped the band.

SLEEP's music has been featured in films by Harmony Korine and Jim Jarmusch.

> PELICAN 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Chicago’s reigning gods of heavy instrumental rock, PELICAN, have announced plans to play two very special shows in celebration of their 10-year anniversary box set release, out October 19th on Berlin, Germany’s Viva Hate Records. The elegantly packaged wooden-box set will be limited to a run of 500 copies and will encompass material from their four full-length releases and three EPs.

Formed in Chicago in 2000, the quartet’s discography has stood as a consistent refutation of genre and musical classicism, perfecting an obtuse approach that has become increasingly precise and calculated while no less recognizable. Listeners from all corners of the earth have celebrated PELICAN’s unique instrumental take on metal, watching them spur the genre into new conceptual territory.

PELICAN will play Chicago’s Bottom Lounge on October 23rd joined by longtime friends and occasional collaborators The Life & Times. Munster, Indiana’s Three Floyds Brewery -- recognized internationally as one of the most unique and distinguished micro-breweries in the country -- will celebrate the event by unveiling a special, PELICAN-dedicated Doppelbock (one of the few styles of beer all four band members regularly agree upon). The as-yet-unnamed ale will be served at the Chicago show and at select watering holes and specialty shops around the Chicagoland area for a limited time. One week after the Chicago appearance, PELICAN will join forces with legendary doom-metal overlords Goatsnake on October 30th to play the Troubador in Los Angeles, an event likely to be one of the most anticipated So-Cal metal sets in recent memory.

PELICAN 10-Year Anniversary Dates:

10/23/2010 The Bottom Lounge - Chicago, IL
10/30/2010 The Troubador - Los Angeles, CA
