> A NEW MEDIA CONCEPT...
August 2010 sees the launch of a groundbreaking new media concept that brings cutting-edge film and music together by offering up and coming bands and musicians the chance to have their music included in a major British independent movie.
Soundtraxs is the brainchild of British independent production company NyAC and is being hosted by leading music video site MUZU.TV. It is the world’s first global online competition, to create a feature film soundtrack. Winning tracks will feature on hotly anticipated new British movie Relative Desire by BAFTA award winning director Michael Baig Clifford.
Set to star Imogen Poots (Fright Night, 28 Weeks Later, V for Vendetta) and Harry Treadaway (Fish Tank, Control, Brothers of the Head), Relative Desire is a fast moving, time twisting thriller where a teenager on the edge sets out to find her missing mother, only to discover a dangerous world where choices are never simple.
Musicians across all genres are encouraged to upload their music onto www.muzu.tv/soundtraxs where members of the public will vote for their favourite tracks. A leading panel of music and film industry experts will then convene to judge the shortlist and the winning ten tracks will feature in the movie soundtrack.
Soundtraxs provides a fantastic career opportunity for emerging bands as the winners will benefit from full synchronisation fees and ongoing royalty payments, and all music will be licensed on a non-exclusive basis. The competition will make the soundtrack to Relative Desire sound utterly unique and will introduce a whole new generation of artists to the world of music for film, a domain normally only open to artists in the higher echelons of the music industry.
“Our mission is to bring new original talent to audiences in as many cross-platform partnerships and collaborations as we can. Soundtraxs is a first. It gives new artists a chance to have their music in a feature film by an award winning director,” says NyAC founder Phil Parker. “The concept itself is fairly simple – it is a global online competition. Potential artists, bands, songwriters and composers have the opportunity to upload a selection of compositions or songs at the Soundtraxs site, hosted by digital partners and new media darlings, MUZU. The public will then vote for the songs they want to appear in the movie soundtrack. The top 50 tunes will then be considered by an expert panel, who will choose the final 10 tunes, and those 10 will appear in the final cut of the film.”
“Soundtraxs is more than a music competition. It provides an opportunity for new graphics artists, who have created animated story boards for musicians to add music to.” adds Phil. “It also allows the public for the first time to collaborate in the creation of a film soundtrack. Soundtraxs is a collaborative opportunity, giving artists a valuable means to explore new business models within the creative industries.”

> THE SECRET: NEW TRACK PREMIERED
The public's first glimpse of THE SECRET's upcoming 3rd full-length Solve Et Coagula has premiered today on Brooklyn Vegan. Stop by now to check out the track "Double Slaughter", and bring a neck brace: http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2010/08/new_mp3_intervi.html.
THE SECRET's first release for purveyor of all things heavy, Southern Lord Recordings, Solve Et Coagula shall be unleashed on the public on September 28th, 2010. Check out the full track listing, the grim cover art courtesy of Justin Bartlett and more here http://www.earsplitcompound.com/site/?p=1210.
Solve Et Coagula's twelve hymns were captured by Kurt Ballou's (Trap Them, Converge, Disfear) Godcity Studios, resulting in cavernous, earthmoving tonal supremacy. The album runs rampant with dismantling breakdowns, gargantuan riffage and jackhammer blastbeats, all empowered by the most shredding vocal attack. THE SECRET's nihilistic metal is surely cutting edge, and places them near the top of the heaviest bands to ever surge forth from Italy. Definitely a band for fans of Converge, Cursed and labelmates Black Breath, Solve Et Coagula's metallic surge is the sound of humanity's failure and defeat, embodied as pure aural rage.

> THE ATLAS MOTH EP ANNOUNCED
Candlelight Records will release a special digital-only covers EP from Chicago's THE ATLAS MOTH on September 28. Titled The One Amongst the Weed Fields, it contains very special renditions of "California Dreamin’" (The Mamas & The Papas), "Fearless" (Pink Floyd), "Golden" (Failure), and "Five to One" (The Doors). Guitarist/vocalist Stavros’ explains, "we have been thinking about doing a covers EP for a while. Thirteen-hour drives with only a radio to entertain you eventually takes a toll. But every once in a while we’d hear a song pop up that would strike us as something we all wanted to make into a ‘Moth song. These are the few we came up with from a terribly long list, and we are pretty proud of the outcome. It was a great way to have some fun, produce something new, and do a little pre-production for our new album which we hope to record later this year."
Stereogum today premiered a the track from the EP, in the form of "Golden" by Failure. Check it out here.
A limited number of download cards will be available for purchase during the band's upcoming tour with friends Nachtmystium, Zoroaster, and Dark Castle, a special treat for fans planning to come out to the show. THE ATLAS MOTH has been touring consistently since the release of A Glorified Piece of Blue Sky last fall. The five-piece was a "buzz band" at the South-By-Southwest Festival earlier this year where they made six showcase appearances. Brooklyn Vegan notes, "the juxtaposition of vocalist/guitarist Stavros's high and low pitched screams against David's soaring and spot-on clean vocals sounds great against the wall of slight synths and crunchy guitars. I already can't wait to see them again." Noisecreeep adds, "their feedback-drenched space jams spiral off into rapturous psychedelia as often as they dredge up the dirtiest dixie-sludge. This is a band to watch, no doubt about it."
Formed in early 2007, THE ATLAS MOTH has carefully perfected their bone-shaking heaviness. An awesome metal hybrid, the quintet unites sludge, doom, psychedelia and more into a musical adventure few bands can deliver. "This is heavy music for heavy thinkers," says Stavros. A Glorified Piece of Blue Sky is the band’s full length debut. It follows 2008’s highly regarded EP, Pray for Tide. Punknews says, THE ATLAS MOTH "gives me shivers... a band to watch." Spinner.com notes, "THE ATLAS MOTH's combination of bluesy, psychedelia, and metal makes for a pretty awesomely grim sonic blend." The band has performed alongside Pentagram, Saviours, Intronaut, Wolves in the Throne Room, Coalesce, and Harvey Milk, among others.

> LEFT SIDE BRAIN UNLEASH BEST OF ALBUM
Bristol riff monsters 'Left Side Brain' spit out a stunning compilation album entitled 'Rifftrospective'; on 25th October through Sugarshack record. The record marks the band's 10th anniversary.
The hard-working quartet have released three albums and toured the nation's highways and byways for the past decade. The band have certainly had their share of trials and tribulations, transit van tours, financial constraints, working crappy-ass jobs and they still have the motivation and drive to move forward (cue brand new record out 2011).
